Since joining Hubpages, I have found it a little addictive.  This is a great little community, and a great way to get information out there.  If you are just starting out, my little tidbit of advice would be - write, even if you have nothing really to say, get something down on paper, and it will flow.  Publish a hub, publish another hub!  Keep on publishing.
